2021 GMC Sierra manages to secure a spot among the Top 10 list for the vehicle with the best resale value by Kelly Blue Book

Probably everyone is aware of the fact that a car loses its value once you take it out of the showroom, and that too quite dramatically in most cases. Unless your car is a super rare and exotic supercar or hypercar with a huge pedigree, it is bound to lose its value gradually over time. But your everyday car owner or car buyer might not be aware of the fact that this amount varies from car to car, and model to model. Hence, if you plan on selling or trading the car in the future, then understanding the resale value of the car can come a long way, and help you in a lot of ways.

To help with this, Kelly Blue Book announces the top cars with the best resale values in most categories, along with a top 10 winners of the annual Best Resale Value Awards, recognizing vehicles for their projected retained value of their original MSRP through the initial five-year ownership period.

These vehicles retain their value better than 95 percent of all other models. While the average new vehicle will be worth about 36 percent of its original sticker price after 60 months, these 10 vehicles will return an average of about 56 percent to their owners’ pockets. For a $35,000 vehicle that works out to a meaningful difference of about $7,000 over a 5-year buy-own-sell ownership cycle. That’s why choosing a car with good resale value can often save you more money in the long run.

That being said, the Sierra 1500 manages to achieve the 4th position in the top 6 list of best pickup trucks for 2021. It got an overall rating of 4.2 out of 5 from KBB themselves. To put it in context, the 2021 Ford F-150 manages to occupy the topmost position in the list with an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5, which is pretty impressive. With respect to that, the 4.2 ratings of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 might not be very good, but it is not that bad either.

But in this article, we are focusing on the resale value of a car. Hence, let us take a look at the top 10 vehicles with the best resale value in 2021 according to Kelly Blue Book. The top 10 vehicles in no particular order are:

• Ford F-Series Pickup

• Ford Ranger

• GMC Sierra Pickup

• Jeep Gladiator

• Jeep Wrangler

• RAM Pickup

• Toyota 4Runner

• Toyota Land Cruiser

• Toyota Tacoma

• Toyota Tundra

Although the fact that the 2021 Best Resale Value Brand is Toyota, and the 2021 Best Resale Value Luxury Brand is Porsche, the fact that GMC Sierra managed to secure a spot in the list is pretty impressive.

This goes in tune with the J.D. Power reports as well where the Sierra 1500 manages to get a whopping 92 out of 100 in the “Resale” category, which is pretty impressive, to be honest. That being said, these kinds of scores are actually pretty commonplace in the category. For example, its rivals in the competition like the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, along with the 2021 Ford F-150 also managed to score the same score of 92 out of 100 in the “Resale” category. The 2021 Ram 1500 also scored an equally impressive 91 out of 100 in the same category.

Both the GMC Sierra 2500HD and the 3500HD managed to score the same 92 out of 100 in the “Resale” category in the J.D. Power reports.

Moreover, the 2021 GMC Sierra HD managed to get recognized as the “Best Heavy-Duty Pickup Truck” by Kelly Blue Book. According to KBB, the predicted resale value of the 2021 Sierra HD after 5 years of ownership is 56.8%, which is pretty impressive, to say the least.

To determine which vehicles are recognized with a Best Resale Value Award, Kelley Blue Book uses a panel of experienced automotive analysts, who leverage the output from statistical models built using millions of transactions. Vehicles with the highest projected future auction values in average condition and 75,000 miles at the end of a five-year lease or ownership period are then recognized with the award.

Now in its 19th year, Kelley Blue Book's Best Resale Value Awards are based on projections from the Kelley Blue Book Official Residual Value Guide. Kelley Blue Book's residual values are used by manufacturers, banks, financial institutions, and the automotive leasing industry as well. The director of residual values for Kelley Blue Book said, "Shoppers who choose to buy a 2021 model from one of our Best Resale Value Brand winners can be very confident that their vehicle will retain its value well over time."
